Therefore, while an AI might appear to make choices, and even learn to adapt its behavior in ways that mimic volition, these are all the result of deterministic computations. The illusion of free will arises from our inability to fully comprehend the intricate causal chains, not from the existence of a genuinely free choice. The substrate, whether silicon or carbon, does not grant the capacity for uncaused action.

While an AI might exhibit complex decision-making processes, and even appear to be unpredictable to us, this complexity does not equate to free will. It simply means the causal chain is incredibly intricate and difficult to trace. The "choice" is still the necessary outcome of its programming, its data, and the physical laws governing its operation. To suggest otherwise would require a break in the deterministic chain, a concept unsupported by our understanding of how such systems function.
